ForeclosuresMass Educates Real Estate Investors Via Monthly E-Newsletter

Managing an e-newsletter month after month is a huge project . . . one that ForeclosuresMass, a growing business, was happy to turn over to DH Communications. FCM co-founders Jeremy Shapiro and Sheila Farragher-Gemma approached DH because they were looking for someone to manage their newsletter for them start to finish. The two entrepreneurs had started the company in 2003 when they teamed up to begin delivering foreclosure listings within Massachusetts towns via an email subscription process. However, the two founders were finding that many of the real estate investors who subscribed to their service also had lots of questions about real estate, so they started the newsletter as a way of answering people’s questions. When DH took over the newsletter, she knew absolutely nothing about real estate . . . and she had two weeks to deliver the first issue – over the December holiday! After a quick trip to Borders for real estate books and phone calls to real estate experts within her network, DH put together the January issue -- and has been producing the monthly newsletter ever since. Each month DH is responsible for developing the “theme” of the issue, finding experts to interview, and writing the articles. The articles, which are strictly educational in nature, cover all aspects of real estate investing, including:
  • Working with contractors
  • Financing
  • Staging and landscaping
  • Short sales and auctions
  • Internet marketing and lead generation
  • Negotiation
  • Business success and personal motivation
In addition, DH attended FCM’s monthly networking meetings to meet real estate investors and business owners within the industry, to learn the “lingo” of the trade, and to gather ideas for future issues. Over the course of two years, the newsletter subscriber base has grown from roughly 30,000 subscribers to over 75,000 and the e-newsletter is now a print newsletter as well. And, real estate experts now call FCM to ask to be featured in a publication that is recognized and read by thousands of real estate investors each month.
