About Dianna Huff
People ask me all the time what my background is . . . a question that always makes me hesitate. Ok, I admit it. I'm an English major who loves reading so much I went on to grad school and studied women who wrote novels in the 18th- and 19th-centuries. But don't let that scare you away.
I'm also a tinkerer and a Do-It-Yourselfer. While in college, I owned a beat-up 1969 VW Beetle. I loved that car! Why? Because its simplicity meant I could do my own tune-ups and repair work. One of my greatest achievements is "dropping" the engine and replacing the heads – by myself. For four days I breathed grease and suffered bloody knuckles,
but what a thrill it was to bolt the engine back in, put the key in the ignition, and hear my car come back to life. Vroom!
Being a B2B marketing consultant means
I get to learn how things work -- without the grease. Whether it's learning how to modify the surface of carbon or getting a demonstration on glass rods being turned into fiber for fiber optics, I'm all ears.
It's also why I specialize in one thing only:
business-to-business Web marketing strategy and content development (aka copywriting). Since 1998, when I started this business, I've had the opportunity to work with companies like Cabot Corporation, Beckman Coulter, Martin Marietta, Waters Corporation, Microsoft Business Solutions, SAP, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Constant Contact, Achieve Global, and numerous small to mid-size B-to-B companies and agencies.
I’ve also been a Contributing Editor for
MarketingSherpa and a Contributing Writer for
The Visual Thesaurus -- as well as being quoted in
numerous marketing books, articles, and blogs. In addition, I’m a four-time
Gold Marcom Creative Awards winner in the categories of Website Copywriting and E-Newsletters and a three-time IABC Silver Quill award winner in the categories of E-newsletters, Marketing Writing, and Marketing Communications.
Before going out on my own, I worked for many years in small and large companies -- including working on a manufacturing production floor
making sails for sailboats during my college days. I honed my expert marketing skills as a MarCom Specialist for
Varian Associates in Palo Alto, California. Before moving to Varian, I was the Business Manager for
Precision Technical Sewing, Inc., a high-tech custom contract sewing firm also located in Palo Alto -- and woman-owned! (We made cloth products for companies and government organizations such as Lockheed and NASA.)
My strong communication skills are due to holding an MA and BA in English Literature from
California State University, East Bay. Shortly after completing my Master's degree in 1993, I became the
Alumni Association president and was responsible for growing Association membership by 33% in two years. I also founded the Association's news magazine, "The Haywire."
I started DH Communications when I relocated to the East Coast in 1998. After surviving culture shock and my first winter, I am happy to say you can't pry me out of New Hampshire. I enjoy reading biographies and crime thrillers, torturing my geeky teenage son by dragging him to
historical sites around New England and working out at the gym.
