excellent write up and youvare so very right about how one simple Google alert would have at least given both client andvagency a heads up. How strange it us to see a media maelstrom over perceived political correctness. Thank goodness they didn’t target Motrin Dads with ‘Blackberry Thumbs’

Thanks, Mark! I have to admit, the only time I take Advil (or Motrin) is when I have a headache. Never considered it for wearing high heels (which was the ad copy on the Motrin Website). And who knew wearing a sling was fashionable? I used one because I needed to get work done!
Love the Motrin Dads with Blackberry Thumbs. That would make a good blog name!

Great post. I agree, its time for people to get on board with social media and stop dragging their feet. Conversation are happening, whether Brands like it or not. A Brand will never be able to control the conversation, but they can participate, and if they do it right, they will reap the benefits.
Like you said, its time to throw out the data, stop thinking about ROI and get on board. The sooner the better.
PS. Love the Star Wars reference. Anyone up for Star Wars Trivial Pursuit?

Thanks, LJ. As for Star Wars trivia, I’ll do pretty well with the first original three movies, but after that, I lost it. Didn’t see Episode I and fell asleep during Episode II. Did watch III to see how Annikan becomes Darth.

These are some good tips! I would also recommend tracking competitors and key industry terms via Google Alerts and Twitter search. You can easily have those sent to your email or subscribe via RSS or post it on your homepage whether it is iGoogle, Netvibes or Pageflakes. Reply to posts and tweets when relevant and when you have something to add to the discussion. Good luck!
