Maximize Brand Strength with New and Old Marketing Tools

Personal branding guru Dan Schawbel recently interviewed me for his Personal Branding Blog. Dan is the author of the book, Me 2.0: Build a Powerful Brand to Achieve Career Success (April 2009) and is a Social Media Specialist at EMC Corporation.

Dan and I talked about the various marketing tools available to all companies — including consultants and freelancers — and which tools to use in certain situations.

As I told Dan, the marketing tactics you choose to use really depend on your business and your business objectives. For example, I recently met with a company that is seeing real ROI through the ads they’re running in a local newspaper — despite the fact that most marketing experts will tell you print advertising is dead or has low ROI.

We also talk about whether companies still need an email list now that RSS is available. And, Dan asked a rather interesting question, “Do you believe that content is king? And if so, do you believe that marketing is queen and that she runs the house?”
